Coupling model for fused fiber couplers with parabolic taper shape

Abstract

An analytic coupling model for fused fiber couplers is obtained assuming a parabolic taper shape for the fibers. The model is compared to experimental results for several fused fiber couplers. Both pull length and final fiber diameter can be predicted for 3-dB couplers.
