Abstract
This paper presents how full-color is created and optimized in rear projection television systems. It discusses briefly how color is quantified and considers a general method for choosing primary red, green, and blue for maximum corrected brightness in common three-panel projection systems. It uses the commercially successful CQ90 architecture as an example. An external passive approach to white correction using tunable double notch polarization filters is also introduced before considering color optimization in single and two-panel projectors.
