Quantities involved in the determination of the ionization energies. Experimental values are denoted by an asterisk. The term value T refers to the position of the first member of the specified series. Four significant figures have been retained in the values of T for computational purposes.
The results for Eu ii were obtained from the 4f76s, 7s, 8s series by Russell, Albertson, and Davis (see Ref. f of Table II). The energy in eV has been slightly revised owing to a new conversion factor.
A value of 12.1 eV for the ionization energy of Yb ii has been given by W. F. Meggers, J. Opt. Soc. Am. 37, 988 (1947). The present value of 12.17 eV was obtained from the 4f146s, 7s, 8s series. The 4f148s level is from unpublished data of Meggers.

Values for Δna and T(6s) derived from the three member 6s, 7s, 8s series compared with more accurate determinations. Definition of symbols: Δna(1)=true value of Δna; Δna(2)=value of Δna obtained by considering only the 6s, 7s, 8s levels; T(1)=true value of T(6s); T(2)=value of T(6s) obtained by considering only the 6s, 7s, and 8s levels; T(3)=value of T(6s) obtained by considering only the 6s and 7s levels and assuming the value of Δna to be exactly 1.0500.
