Multicolor wave-front reconstruction of partially diffusing plane objects

Abstract

The method consists of recording an in-line hologram of a partially diffusing subject. An artificial achromatic modulation by a random diffuser is necessary in the case of nondiffusing transparent subjects. The hologram is recorded in such a manner that, on reconstruction, it gives a series of longitudinally displaced self-diffusing images, the spectra of which consist of Fourier transforms of the subject modulated by a system of interference fringes. By recording and reconstructing the subject with a mixture of three wavelengths corresponding to the three primary colors, the spectrum is modulated by nine systems of fringes. Selection of three proper systems gives the subject in the original colors and removes the unwanted cross reconstructions.
