Power spectra of speckle signals detected by optical-fiber probe

Abstract

Temporal power spectra of speckle signals detected by a simple optical-fiber probe are investigated theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical analysis considers the core diameter and the numerical aperture of the illuminating and detecting fiber pair in the probe, the moving velocity of a scatter plate, and the separation distance between the probe and the plate. It is shown that the half-width of the power spectral distribution is linearly proportional to the velocity of the scatter plate, while its ratio is determined by the core diameters and the numerical aperture of the fiber pair in the probe within a certain range of the distance between the probe and the plate. Several experiments are conducted to verify the theoretical results.
