Abstract
We introduce a new technique for eliminating prepulse emission from a chirped-pulse amplification Nd:glass laser, a nonlinear optical technique based on optical parametric amplification. We demonstrate not only that the intensity-contrast ratio of the laser pulse can be enhanced from R to ~R3 but also that significant pulse shortening can occur under appropriate conditions with this technique.
