Diffraction properties of momentum-mismatched gratings in photorefractive media

Abstract

We consider the diffraction properties of index gratings in photorefractive media, assuming an arbitrary momentum mismatch (Bragg mismatch). The incident and diffracted waves interact inside the photorefractive medium to form a new index grating that is exactly Bragg matched by the two beams. The original grating with the momentum mismatch can be either fixed or photorefractive. Both transient and steady-state responses in the two cases are analyzed. The results are presented and discussed.
