Optimization of thick lenses for single-mode optical-fiber microcomponents

Abstract

A technique is presented that allows the lengths of thick miniature lenses to be controlled with great accuracy, yielding low-loss micro-optic connectors and components for single-mode fiber systems. A comparison between a simple model of the performance of the lens assemblies and the experimental results produces a close correlation.
