Abstract

It is shown that the cross-spectral density and the spectrum of a fluctuating, statistically stationary free optical field may be obtained from the knowledge of its spatial coherence properties. Explicit expressions for the cross-spectral density and for the spectrum are derived in terms of the mutual intensity function of the field.
