Heuristic Determination of Spatial Resolution from Viewpoint of Data Fitting in Transmission Optical Computed Tomography Based on Coherent Detection Imaging

Abstract

A new evaluation method for analysis of the spatial resolution of the coherent detection imaging (CDI) system is proposed with a new formulation of the computed tomography based on the algebraic equation system. The spatial resolution is defined as the optimal square grid size in the sense of data-fitting in the algebraic reconstruction, and is determined with the minimum description length (MDL) principle devised by Rissanen. Our method can simultaneously consider the effects brought about by the numbers of projections and bins, the beam width, the observation noise, the truncated projections, and so on. Moreover, a method to generate the weight matrix faithfully representing data-acquisition processes by the Gaussian beams is proposed to consider the profile of the incident beams. We demonstrate the effectiveness with simulated data.
