Abstract
Measurements of Raman gain in a barium nitrate crystal are reported at 532 nm using a Raman oscillator/amplifier arrangement. Measurements of the optical spectrum of the first Stokes shift in barium nitrate are performed at medium and high resolution. The laser source for the Raman gain experiment is a multimode Nd:YAG laser and the laser source for the linewidth experiment is a fiequency-doubled, injection-seeded Nd:YAG laser. Spectra for both single-pass conversion and for a Raman oscillator are compared. Significant gain narrowing of the spectrum is observed.
