Abstract
We report results of a breast cancer investigation using a diffuse continuous wave optical apparatus. The protocol utilized an extrinsic contrast agent, Indocyanine Green (ICG). The apparatus works in the near-infrared (NIR) spectral window with 16 sources and 16 detectors collecting light in parallel. The data were processed to retrieve the pharmokinetics of the injected bolus. A two-compartment model was used to preprocess the data. Then diffuse optical tomography (DOT) was performed on the data using the first order Rytov perturbation model and the Kirchhoff approximation to account for boundaries in the numerical model. Local uptake of ICG enabled to distinguish between Tumor and healthy tissue.
