Independent modeling of fluorescence excitation and emission with the finite element method

Abstract

Based on the diffusion equation, a parallel FEM system is proposed, describing photon propagation and fluorescence emission using appropriate boundary conditions. Iterative reconstruction methods will benefit from the speed-up due to parallelized forward model execution.
