All-electrical, room temperature surface plasmon generation using quantum cascade lasers

Abstract

We report the pulsed, room-temperature operation of a surface-plasmon quantum cascade laser at an operating wavelength of ≈ 7.5 μm. Improved performance of the surface-plasmon waveguide has been obtained by using silver as a plasmon-carrying layer.
