Quantum-dot-based Saturable Absorber for Femtosecond Mode-locked Operation of a Solid-state Laser

Abstract

Femtosecond operation of a solid-state laser passively mode locked by a quantum-dot saturable absorber has been demonstrated. Controllability of the pulse duration is demonstrated with pulses ranging from 58ps to 158fs around 1280nm.
