Nuclear Collisions in Heteronuclear Molecules Driven by an Ultrastrong Laser Field

Abstract

We consider ultrashort and ultrastrong laser pulses applied to a gas of aligned heteronuclear molecules, where nuclei of different mass will acquire different velocities and collide, possibly producing fusion or emitting subattosecond bursts of X-rays.
