Abstract
The generation of a tuneable effective Kerr nonlinearity in materials with dominant second order nonlinearity by cascading strongly phase-mismatched SHG with concurrent down-conversion into the fundamental wave is a well established topic in nonlinear optics which has been extensively investigated in theory and experiment [1, 2]. In contrast, effective quintic nonlinearity via mismatched third harmonic generation (THG) has received comparatively less attention and has been limited to the theoretical analysis in continuous waves [3].
