Abstract

Theoretical analysis and physical interpretation of a new type of weakly leaking modes guided by a slanted periodic grating is carried out in the presence of small gain/dissipation. Infinitely strong resonances are predicted in gratings with optimal gain, where the energy losses due to leakage are compensated by the gain.
