Abstract

Recent advances in the field of metamaterials added a new dimension to the science of light-matter interaction. One of the remarkable new phenomena that arise from using materials with negative permittivity and/or permeability is the negative refractive index of the materials. In his seminal work Pendry suggested that a slab of such a material, e.g. silver, can act as a "perfect-lens" and achieve super-resolution [1]. However, the main obstacle for using the negative index materials in standard imaging systems is the high losses.
