Relaxation Mechanisms and Lifetime of the OH Stretching Vibration in Aqueous Hydrates

Abstract

Nonlinear infrared spectroscopy gives evidence for intermolecular energy transfer as primary channel for the relaxation of the OH stretching vibration of HDO. Properties of bifurcated hydrogen bonds are unambiguously compared to strong and weak ones.
