Abstract
The photochromic effect in mixed and two-layer AgCl-CuCl films is studied. It is shown that the initial stage of the photochromic process is connected with the exciton excitation in microcrystals of CuCl. A physical model of the photochromic effect based on the existence of a heterojunction between the microcrystals of CuCl and AgCl is suggested. The important role of photoelectron localization within the potential wells in the heterojunction region, of sell-localization and localization in deep traps of photoholes in the CuCl crystalline grains at the photochromic effect evolution is shown. The suggested model explains various types of bleaching which exist in the AgCl-CuCl films of the different preparation.
