Zero-n Photonic Band-Gaps in Binary Photonic Crystal Superlattices

Abstract

We demonstrate that photonic superlattices of alternating layers with positive refractive index and photonic crystals with negative effective refractive index, present a photonic gap at frequencies where the spatial average of the refractive index vanishes.
