Buried metal grating for vertical fiber-waveguide coupling with high directionality

Abstract

We numerically propose a buried metal grating coupler which can forbid diffractions toward substrate by itself. When the grating is higher than 600 nm, it can reach 90% coupling directionality without using substrate mirror.
