Probing electron wavefunctions in quantum wells using ultrafast coherent acoustic phonon generation

Abstract

Individual quantum wells in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures are selectively excited by ultrashort wavelength-tunable optical pulses. We demonstrate how the electron and hole wavefunctions can be probed from the generated coherent acoustic phonon pulses.
