Mechanism of vortices generation for a trapped superfluid under oscillatory excitation

Abstract

We observed a relative motion in between a 87Rb Bose-Einstein condensate and the thermal fraction, excited by a time-varying magnetic field. This motion produce ripples on the BEC/thermal interface and gives evidences of vortex nucleation mechanism.
