Optical and Microfluidic Techniques for Cellular Analysis

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Our group has been developing a suite of optofluidic techniques for the analysis of single cells and subcellular organelles. Specifically, we have worked to advance a platform based on optical manipulation, droplet microfluidics, and single-molecule detection for studying cells and subcellular structures. Towards this end, we have developed techniques for isolating subcellular organelles from cells, microfluidic devices to encapsulate such small structures in droplets, and sensitive separation and detection techniques for analyzing these samples. We have also developed microfluidic based optical elements, which have proved useful and versatile in the development of these new cellular analysis techniques.
