Nonlinear absorption in Silicon at mid-infrared wavelengths

Abstract

We report strong nonlinear absorption in silicon at wavelengths between 2.6 µm and 4.5 µm. The results indicate that nonlinear absorption can limit the performance of silicon nonlinear waveguides in the mid infrared.
