Abstract

It is generally accepted that graded-index fiber will soon be in practical use for medium- to large-capacity trunk lines. However, the procedure for fiber structural design is not fully established. Fiber parameters should be determined considering the synthetic requirement for transmission characteristics, mechanical properties, installation and splice conditions, reliability, and economical factors.
