Abstract
An internal gain of 10dB (975nm pumping) has been demonstrated from a 2.2cm long section of experimental fiber manufactured from Kigre’s "MM-2" Er:Yb: phosphate laser glass.[1,2] As much as 26dB (1480nm pumping) of gain was produced from this same experimental fiber with an 8.8cm length.[3] Images of the 1.54µm mode field containment for this fiber indicate a perfect match to standard communications transmission fiber.
