Variable Optical Attenuator with Large Dynamic Range and Low Drive Power

Abstract

We demonstrate a polymer waveguide-based thermo-optic variable optical attenuator with 30dB dynamic range that requires only 10mW of drive power at 30dB. The design offers low insertion loss (<1.0dB) and is compatible with planar processing.
