Effect of OH impurity on residual stress development in optical fiber

Abstract

It is well known that OH impurity in optical fibers affects mechanical and optical properties of the fibers. The strength of optical fibers is significantly weakened by OH impurity because OH impurity induces to form microscopic surface flaws by its corrosive reaction with SiO2 networks.1
