Abstract

There are some types of hydrophones using only one optical fiber: The fiber-optic Fabry-Perot interferometer has been studied extensively as a sensor of acoustic wave, mechanical vibration, temperature, voltage and magnetic field.1) 2) A hydrophone utilising mode-mode interference within a multimode fiber has been proposed.3) An experiment on a non-interferometric hydrophone using a polarization-maintaining fiber has also been reported.4) This paper describes the development of the previous non-interferometric hydrophone into an interferometric one.
