Abstract
The military use of fiber otpic communication links has been principally motivated by the opportunity to obtain an EMI/EMP free transmission media that 'results in a significant saving in weight and volume over conventional wire and cable facilities. As a result, the use of various forms of fiber cable offer a highly cost effective solution to transmission problems within aircraft and ships and for ground and undersea applications. The extent of the applications are so extensive we will limit the discussion to systems that have already been constructed and are undergoing or about to undergo testing or are in actual use within the armed forces.
