How Solar Cells Work

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Solar cells are seen as heat engines. In a first step occurring in all semiconductors, chemical energy is produced by establishing 2 different Fermi-distributions. This step is limited by thermodynamics. In a second step, requiring the structure of a solar cell, chemical energy is transformed into electrical energy. Article not available.
