Abstract

We demonstrate full-field imaging of terahertz (THz) phonon-polariton waves induced by a point focused optical pulse in MgO-doped lithium niobate (LN). The group velocities of the optical and THz pulses as well as the Cherenkov radiation angle are directly measured. Transition radiation from the LN surface is also imaged for the first time.
