Abstract

The transient effect in a two stage hybrid optical amplifier is presented to show the combined dynamics of the distributed Raman amplifier and the erbium doped fiber amplifier. By adjusting the erbium doped fiber amplifier length and pump power the total power excursion of the surviving channel is decreased from 1.07 to 0.6 dBm and 0.62 to 0.34 dBm, respectively. Further the overall performance of the hybrid amplifier is presented in terms of gain and optical signal to noise ratio.
