Analysis of various liquid-crystal optical-shutter designs

Abstract

Computer modelling is used to analyze the optical characteristics of various optical-shutter designs that use a π cell. It is shown that, from the viewpoint of optical characteristics, the best optical-shutter design for incoherent radiation sources is one that is based on a standard twist cell.
