Abstract

A noncoherent optical communication system employing M-ary DPSK/differential QAM and multilevel-coding (MLC), with LDPC codes as component codes, is proposed. 8-DPSK based MLC scheme provides the coding gain of 11.8 dB at BER of 10−10 with spectral efficiency 2 bits/s/Hz.
