Abstract

Structured fibres are heralding new ways to deal with old problems, allowing the tailoring of the macro properties of fibres such as temperature and strain coefficients. Combining these channels with new materials that exploit the localisation of light at the interface to enhance sensitivity with laser processed components offers an unprecedented level of device complexity.
