Photonic crystal silicon based structures for thin film solar cell

Abstract

The absorption of an ultra-thin layer can be significantly increased by patterning a photonic crystal. The incident light couples into slow Bloch modes, enabling a robust control of the photon lifetime and then, the enhancement of the absorption integrated over the whole solar spectrum.
