Cognitive PONs: a Novel Approach toward Energy Efficiency

Abstract

This paper introduces the concept of cognitive PONs, i.e. PONs capable of adapting their configuration based upon network status. Their potentials in decreasing PON energy consumption are highlighted in a specific scenario.
