Abstract

In this paper, we report the fabrication of Bragg gratings in singlemode polymer optical fibers through 248 nm irradiation. We address the challenge of high absorption at 248 nm in the PMMA-based cladding through a careful tailoring of the ultraviolet pulsed laser parameters to achieve a grating in the bulk region without significant surface ablation. We observe multiple resonances in the grating reflection spectrum and demonstrate uniform tuning of such resonances under different strained conditions.
