Abstract
The issues associated with propagation through strong turbulence are assessed in detail and techniques for ameliorating the degradation associated with these effects are identified. The work begins with the impact of scintillation and the onset of branch points in the phase. The issues associated with this phenomenon are discussed and mitigation techniques are presented. In addition the work discusses the utility of MCAO systems in this regard with respect to laser transmission and power beaming. The work concludes with a treatment of the issues associated with deep turbulence. Examples are presented where the Isoplanatic Angle is many times smaller than lambda over D. The newest results available will be presented at the time of presentation.
