Abstract

New method of the space-charge-field detection in photorefractive crystals based on a polarization self-modulation of vibrating speckle patterns is proposed and demonstrated. To explain the main features of this self-modulation effect we use a simple model of the beam transmittance through the electro-optic crystal with a non-uniform internal electric field. We have demonstrated that adaptive speckle-pattern-filtering could be implemented on the base of the polarization self-modulation effect, allowing highly sensitive linear detection of a speckle-pattern displacement.
