Abstract

Linear residual losses in various saturable YAG:Cr4+ crystal absorbers are investigated. It is proposed, that the residual losses belong to (Cr4+-Me2+) complexes, and its generation is more probable in the crystals with the Ca co-dopant, than in the crystals with the Mg co-dopant. The bonding energy for the (Cr4+ - Ca2+) complex is estimated to be 0.6 eV, and its absorption cross section at 1.06 µm is about 3•10−18 cm2.
