Femtosecond pulse shortening using cross-polarized wave (XPW) generation in the saturation regime

Abstract

We demonstrate that XPW driven in saturation can act as an efficient pulse compressor. Pulse shortening by a factor of 3 is achieved with excellent spectro-temporal quality and 20% global transmission. The complex spatio-temporal dynamics of the process is investigated.
