Abstract

We successfully grew high quality Nd:GdVO4 crystals by the floating zone method. Two types of crystal growth were demonstrated, which conveniently provide c-and a-cut crystals for practical use. Furthermore, we attempted strict measurements of Nd concentrations. As a result, homogeneous crystals were obtained with the targeted concentrations. Using a 2 at.% Nd-doped GdVO4 crystal, a slope efficiency of 78% was achieved by pumping at 879nm.
