Abstract

Spectroscopic properties of Nd:GdVO4 were investigated, and it was found that its absorption and emission cross sections were smaller than those of Nd:YVO4. And by using Nd:GdVO4 the near quantum-limit laser oscillation was demonstrated. The highest optical-to-optical efficiency of 79.0% has been achieved in 1-μm cw laser oscillation by Nd:GdVO4, where slope efficiency was 80.3% with respect to the pump input power.
