Energy-scavenging amplifiers for miniature solid-state lasers*

Abstract

Longitudinally pumped miniature lasers are inefficient, partly because of inefficient absorption of the pump light. By scavenging the unabsorbed pump light to pump an in-line amplifier, the efficiency of the system can be greatly enhanced.
