Abstract

We present the first demonstration in femtosecond regime of a Yb-doped hetero-bonding crystal, YAG//Yb:SYS, under diode-pumping. In order, to evidence the advantages of this hetero-composite crystal upon classical Yb:SYS crystal, we also investigate high power cw regime and cw power of 4.3 W has been demonstrated. Femtosecond regime has also been studied and 1-W-average-power, 135-fs pulses at 1072 nm have been produced, which represents to our knowledge the first demonstration of an Yb-doped hetero-composite mode-locked laser
